Integrating AI into Grammar Instruction: "Must" vs. "Have to"

Hello everyone and welcome back. I am excited to share our latest teaching material, an AI-integrated worksheet focused on the distinctions between "must" and "have to." This was a collaborative effort with my group members: Adem Bozkurt, Ekrem Başkara, and Berken Aytın. For this project, I was responsible for designing the Target Task. My focus was on creating a structured prompt that students could use with Generative AI tools like Gemini or ChatGPT. The goal was to guide the AI to produce A2-level sentences that clearly illustrate the difference between internal and external obligation. By setting up this comparison, students can actively analyze how their original sentences differ from the AI-enhanced versions, fostering a deeper understanding of these grammar points. Stepping Into London: Exploring AR/VR in the Language Classroom

Hello and welcome back everyone. In this lesson, we are assigned with a new task called Exploring AR/VR in the Language Classroom.  Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) are becoming very popular in education. Simply put, VR puts you inside a digital world, while AR adds digital images to the real world. The best thing about them is that students can "travel" to new places without leaving the classroom. However, there are some disadvantages. For example, you need good internet, and buying VR glasses (like Google Cardboard) can cost money. For our project, my group members (Adem, Ekrem, Berken, and I) created a lesson plan called "Augmented/Virtual Reality Integrated Teaching Material". Our target audience is high school prep students at the A2 level. The goal of the lesson is to take a tour of London landmarks. We divided the tasks among the four of us. I was responsible for the second part: The British Museum. I found the 360-degree tour of the museum an...

Grammar Teaching Video for a Flipped EFL Classroom.

Hello guys. Welcome again. Today I’m going to tell you about my new assignment called creating a grammar teaching video for a flipped EFL classroom. The Flipped Classroom is a teaching method that reverses the traditional learning environment. In traditional classrooms , you learn the lesson in class (lecture) and do the practice at home (homework). But in flipped classroom, you learn the lesson at home (via videos/readings) and do the practice in class. The benefit is that class time is no wasted-on lectures anymore. Instead, 100% of class time is used for speaking, interaction, and using the language with the teacher's help. However, if students don't watch the video at home, they can't participate in the class activities. For this assignment, we formed a group of three members: Adem Bozkurt, Ekrem Bakşara, and me. We were assigned to create a grammar teaching video for a flipped EFL classroom. Our task was to create grammar materials, explain them in a video, and t...

Preparing AI-enhanced, Corpus-based Teaching Materials and a Lesson Plan

H ello, welcome back everyone. Today I am going to talk about my new assignment. I was assigned to a group of three: myself, Adem Bozkurt, and Ekrem Başkara. Our topic is preparing AI-enhanced, corpus-based teaching materials and a lesson plan based on the ASSURE model. Now, let me briefly explain the process to you. As pre-teachers, we are constantly looking for innovative ways to make grammar memorable and relevant. I recently designed a lesson plan and corresponding materials focused on teaching obligation modal verbs (must, have to, mustn't, don't have to) to high school English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students at the B1 level. The lesson follows the ASSURE model and is heavily integrated with technology, specifically AI tools and corpus analysis. The core task, AI-Enhanced Corpus-Based Teaching Material: Obligations at School, is a 45-minute activity for learners aged 14-15. It moves students from a "Test Your Knowledge" warm-up to an "Inductive disc...

Interview with Adolf Hitler on His Ideology and the Rise of Nazism

For this task, I used an AI chatbot to talk to Adolf Hitler. The aim was to learn about his ideas and what led to World War II. This topic is very serious and difficult to talk about. Using AI helped me improve my English and also learn history. The AI tool was very helpful because it gave me clear and simple answers. When I asked questions like “How did you get your ideas?”, the chatbot explained Hitler’s early life, the war, and the Treaty of Versailles. This helped me understand how his experiences led him to believe in his ideas. However, it was also difficult. Talking about Hitler and the Holocaust is a sensitive topic. I had to be careful with my words and be careful to remain respectful. The AI gave answers that sounded like facts, but sometimes it did not show emotions or explain how wrong these ideas were. So I had to think carefully and not believe everything without checking the real history.  If I were a teacher, I would use such AI tools to help students lear...

This Is Our Planet, Let's Keep the Water Bodies Clean

As a part of ınstructional technologies and material design in English language lessons, we were assigned to create a video. İnstructor provided us three options for this project, such as creating a public service announcement (shortly PSA), how to do projects and a functional story. We were a group of three members and decided to create a public service announcement project.   We stand the “This Is Our Planet, Let's Keep the Water Bodies Clean” public announcement as the project topic. It focuses on calling to stop pouring cooking oil down the sink. To simplify the task process, we divided it into three parts. One member did research and vocalized the information he collected. Another written scenario and make a short video for it. And the last person responsible for editing the video combines with the recorded vocals. That was mine. In the assignment, I took responsibility for editing and helped my friends record videos. Recording video was actually enjoyable, I think this part i...
